As preparations for the U.S. Department of Defense’s expected military buildup on Guam move forward, Senator Telo T. Taitague continues to keep abreast of current issues and concerns while remaining a staunch proponent for mutually beneficial initiatives and open communication with the general public.

“A groundbreaking ceremony for a facility to house 18,000 construction workers clearly indicates that today, despite public opinion, the buildup is moving forward. “ Senator Taitague said. “This is the most significant event in Guam’s history since World War II and it is our responsibility to work together to guide this process in the best interest of our people.”

Senator Taitague joined Younex International during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ukudu Workforce Village in Harmon. The facility is being constructed to house the anticipated18,000 laborers needed to build the required infrastructure within the DOD timeframe.

“There is a very heated debate that spans all cultures and ages on Guam, especially among our younger professionals, students and our youth. I’m proud to say that our people are informed with well researched arguments both for and against an increased military presence,” Senator Taitague said. “But the challenge for today’s leader goes beyond distinguishing what side we are on. We must realize that this buildup already is affecting this community, whether they are new businesses in Tumon or dissenting voice among the constituents we serve. We’ve got to think about the dynamics of the events we see happening now and we’ve got to establish a vision that will secure a greater quality of life for our children and future."
