SENATOR TAITAGUE VISITS GUMA SAN JOSE, CELEBRATES SHELTER’S MISSION TO SERVE STRUGGLING FAMILIES

New homeless shelter provides hope for children and their families

Senator Telo T. Taitague took a moment to visit with families and staff at the new Guma San Jose homeless shelter in Dededo this week. Catholic Social Services, which operates the facility, held a grand opening celebration on April 27, 2010.

“Reaching out to lend a helping hand to those families who are struggling financially is perhaps one of the greatest qualities of our community,” Senator Taitague said. “I’m proud to support Guma San Jose’s mission to provide women and their children with the services, shelter and support they need to re-establish themselves and earn a decent living for their families.”

Currently Guma San Jose is the only homeless shelter that can accommodate children and their families who are not victims of violence or abuse. The facility is capable of housing up to ten families with accommodations for single occupants.
