Preserving Our Environment with Solutions
Focusing on the upcoming military buildup and the effects it will have on our community, Senator Telo sponsored also Bill No. 310, which will ensure that the government of Guam conducts a methane recovery system feasibility study for the soon-to-be-built Layon Landfill.
Methane recovery systems are being utilized throughout the nation as municipalities look for more environmentally sound solid waste disposal techniques as well as alternative sources for energy production.
“Guam will be affected by the military buildup in unimaginable way, both positive and negative. We have got to be proactive to mitigate the hazards and changes we can see right now,” Senator Taitague said. “These studies will help us target specific problems and find solutions before we are forced into another situation like the Ordot landfill, which has taken a serious toll on our environment, our government’s credibility and most importantly, the health of our people.”
