Senator Telo Taitague's Work

Taking the Initiative for Guam’s Deaf Community

Recognizing the needs of our people, Senator Telo has taken great initiative to improve accessibility and services for Guam’s deaf community. Despite the daunting and long legislative process, Senator Telo took matters into her own hands and urged the Guam Fire Department to implement an E-911 number for the hearing impaired immediately. Within 45 minutes of meeting with GFD Fire Chief Dave Peredo, an emergency number was secured:

(671) 687-0657

Senator Telo’s legislation, once passed, will bring a specifically designed number for text messaging capabilities for the hearing-impaired.
“We have a responsibility to make Guam accessible for all our citizens, especially those with disabilities,” Senator Taitague said. “These individuals play a significant role in our community and I commend the Guam Fire Department for taking this issue into consideration quickly and implementing this number for the deaf community.”
