Draft Environmental Impact Statement

Hafa Adai Friends…

There is much debate in our community today. Concerns, questions, frustration and are quickly growing among many of our people as the reality of a multi-billion dollar military buildup sets in.

At the forefront of the ongoing debate is The Draft Environmental Impact Statement that outlines changes this community will have to endure over the next few years. Recent weeks have seen a number of public hearings from the Joint Guam Program Office and the Office of the Governor.

Hundreds have come out to voice their concerns and share their thoughts. Many broke down in tears at the mere mention of the drastic change their homeland will go through. Others were quite optimistic about the opportunities that are already presenting themselves.

I am proud of all those who came out and I encourage all those who have yet to speak their minds, to come out and participate in the 30th Guam Legislature’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement Public Hearings.

Please join us on January 28 – 29, 2010, from 6p.m. – 9p.m. at the Guam Legislature Session Hall in Hagåtña.

Your elected leaders and agency directors are working tirelessly to ensure that we maintain and exercise a certain level of control over the changes that will occur. But we cannot do it without your help.

We all have a voice, but together, we will make a statement.

Si Yu’os Ma’ase,
Senator Telo
